FileMaker

Arts and Architecture operates a FileMaker server (version 14) which allows databases to be hosted centrally providing for security via central PSU authentication and multiuser access. If you would like to host a database on the server please review the FileMaker Database Hosting Procedure and complete a Request for Network Services form. You may also find this document on Filemaker security helpful.

Connecting by Client

  • You must be on a College of Arts and Architecture network, PSU wireless, or ISP to PSU VPN connection
  • Open FileMaker and choose File -> Open Remote
  • Change the View drop down to Favorite Hosts if it's not already set
  • If you do not have filemaker.arts.psu.edu already in your list, click Add and put in filemaker.arts.psu.edu for the Host's Internet Address.
  • Click on filemaker.arts.psu.edu in your list and you will be prompted for credentials.  You must use userid@dce.psu.edu for the account (i.e. abc123@dce.psu.edu).  This can be made easier via a preference.
  • Once you authenticate you will see a list of databases on the right that you have access to.
  • Choose a database to open.  You will be prompted to authenticate a second time to open the database.

Connecting by Web

You do not need FileMaker on your computer to use a database hosted on the server, you can access the server and any database you have access to via a web browser.  This does require the database maintainer to have activated this IWP access in the database (see hosting procedure for more information).

  • You must be on a College of Arts and Architecture network, PSU wireless, or ISP to PSU VPN connection
  • Go to http://filemaker.arts.psu.edu
  • Log in with your PSU userid@dce.psu.edu and password
